The Healthy Start Coalition of Sarasota County will assure access to high quality services that strengthen families and support the preconception and interconception health of women, healthy pregnancy, positive birth outcomes, and the optimal growth and development of children 0-3.
We are a Guidestar organization.
The Healthy Start Coalition of Sarasota County is a non-profit organization that provides services to improve the health and well-being of pregnant women, babies and young children.

J. Barney, B.S. A resident of Venice for 13 years, C. J. enjoys
many activities with her family. When she's not playing board games with
grandchildren, you may find her walking, bike riding, swimming, or gardening.
C. J. has always helped with other families, too. She taught special education
in a private school, and worked at the Department of Children and Families.
Women in Healthy Start have benefited from her care for the last 3 1/2 years,
as she has sought to help them realize their potentials in their family
life and at work. |

 Rebecca
Clapp, R.N., M. S, M.A. Becky is living out her life-long dream
working in public health nursing. The foundation of Healthy Start in Sarasota
was laid in part by Becky, who helped start the program and write the standards
and guidelines by which the program operates. Passionate about the opportunity
to work with families in their homes, Becky is sensitive to how complex
and difficult lives can become, and works with families to help them to
overcome problems. |

 Kathleen
Boyette, B.A., M.A. Kathleen who speaks English and Spanish,
who has lived in Sarasota for 30 years. She has varied work experiences
in the fields of teaching, criminal intelligence and vice, narcotics,
and mental health. Over the last year with Healthy Start, Kathleen has
assisted many clients realize current and new skills to deal with life
situations in their pregnancies and childbearing. Kathleen enjoys hiking,
needlework, reading, and international affairs. |

 Shelley
Rence, M.A. Shelley has been a very busy person for the last two
years managing the Healthy Start Program at the Sarasota County Health Department.
Rewarded by births of drug-free healthy infants, Shelley has applied her
special training in substance abuse and addiction to help many local mothers
with drug problems. When she's not assisting a Care Coordinator to solve
an unusual problem or a Data Entry Operator with a computer glitch, Shelley
can be found at the beach or a school activity with her teenage daughter.
Among her team are Pat Reynolds, MSW, and Nancy Valles, R.N., who serve the
South County area. |

 Suzanne
Sendelbach, R.N., B.S. From New York to Colorado to Florida, Suzanne
has worked in obstetric and pediatric health clinics. She has been with
the Healthy Start Program in Sarasota County since its inception. Over the
years, Suzanne has witnessed parents who have had to make many sacrifices
and endure many hardships in order to provide a better life for their children,
and has been rewarded with many success stories. Suzanne is fluent in Spanish
and is a tireless advocate for her Hispanic clients. |
