Help to Quit Smoking!

THE HEALTHY START COALITION OF SARASOTA COUNTY WANTS TO HELP YOU QUIT SMOKING
We want to help more pregnant women and new parents quit smoking. Why? We want to support women who want the best health for themselves and their family.

SMOKING ISN’T WORTH THE RISKS!
Did you know?

WHY IS QUITTING SMOKING SOMETIMES HARD TO DO?
Quitting smoking is sometimes hard because it is a physical addiction. Nicotine is the most addictive drug there is.

Smoking is a learned habit. After just one year of smoking one pack per day, you have brought your hand to your mouth 73,000 times! Also, certain thoughts, feelings, and situations led you to smoke in the first place, and now you may not even realize why you lighting up.

MANY PREGNANT WOMEN AND NEW PARENTS HAVE QUIT SMOKING, AND YOU CAN, TOO
Don’t be afraid to ask for help to quit smoking. It’s not unusual to be scared of what might happen if you didn’t have cigarettes in your life.

In 2005, we taught many doctors and nurses who care for pregnant women and young children how to help smokers quit. The Care Coordinators in the Healthy Start Program, who are nurses and social workers, all know how to help you, too.

If you are pregnant or a new parent and would like help to quit smoking or need help to not start smoking again, call the Healthy Start Program at 861-2905. These services are free!

You can also call toll free the QUITLINE at 1-877- U CAN NOW. The Quitline is a telephone counseling help line for smokers. You will receive counseling on your phone in the comfort of your own home.
